CORVUS CORAX es una banda Alemana conocida por tocar musica medieval usando una abundancia en instrumentos autoctonos. Su nombre deriva del nombre científico de los Cuervo Comun. La banda fue formada en 1989 por Castus Rabensang, Wim (Venustus) y Meister Selbfried («Master Selfpeace»). la banda usualmente usa gaitas como unico instrumento, sus atractivas presentaciones con sus bizarros look de sus musicos trayendo reminicencia antigua Mitos Griegos: medio desnudos, vestidos con ropas inusuales, vestidos con diferentes decoraciones antiguas, a veces tatuados.
Hoy la banda consiste en 8 Miembros: Ardor vom Venushügel («Ardor from the Venusmount»), Castus Rabensang, Patrick der Kalauer («Patrick the groaner»), Harmann der Drescher («Harmann the thrasher»), Hatz («hunt»), Jordon Finus, Teufel y Wim (Venustus). En mayo de 2005 Meister Selbfried, Uno de los fundadore e inventigador de musica medieval de corvus corax, decidió terminar su actividad como musico y dedicarse el mismo a la administración de Corvus Corax’ con su propio sello Pica Records [1]. Su lugar fue ocupado por Jordon Finus en 2006.
La banda publica su música a través de Pica Records en Europa y Noir Records en el EE.UU… El proyecto Cantus Buranus ha sido puestos en libertad hasta la fecha en Europa por Roadrunner Europa.
PROYECTOS
En 1996 la banda lanzo el álbum Tanzwut el cual combina los elementos de metal con su musica de gaitas. El Cd fue un éxito comercial y la banda decidió continuar la linea de ese album en un proyecto llamado Tanzwut, el cual incluía a Castus Rabensang (German Rabensang = ravensong), Wim, and Teufel (German Teufel = Devil) de Corvus Corax y tres nuevos miembros.
In 2005 Corvus Corax started the ambitious project «Cantus Buranus»: a full-length opera set to the original Carmina Burana manuscript lyrics. The music for the opera was fully composed by the band and had no connection with the famous work by Carl Orff. It was performed with symphonic orchestra, choir and medieval ensemble, combining traditional symphonism with medieval minstrel-like melodies. The project included a CD recording, a DVD, as well as live performances. A live CD and DVD recording of Cantus Buranus was released in March 2006.
2005 also marked the band’s debut concerts in the USA. The band performed four sets on each of four different days in mid-October, not far from Philadelphia at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. There was also a «secret show» held for employees of the Faire. Footage shot by the band members and crew was assembled into a featurette that was included as a bonus track on the US edition of the band’s live DVD, «Gaudia Vite.»
